The Rock History Report for March 7th

1962 - Donning their trademark Beno Dorn suits for the first time, The Beatles also cut their first-ever songs for the BBC in Manchester. The Fab Four, performed “Teenager’s Turn (Here We Go),” “Hello Little Girl,” “Memphis, Tennessee,” “Dream Baby” and “Please Mr. Postman.”

1964 - The Dave Clark Five made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan show.

1973 - John Hammond, a Columbia A&R employee, suffered a heart attack at a showcase concert given by Bruce Springsteen, whom he had recently signed. Hammond survived the ordeal and went on to sign Stevie Ray Vaughn.

1976 - Elton John’s wax figure went on display at Madame Tussaud’s Museum in London.

1994 - The US Supreme Court made “Weird” Al Yankovic’s day when they ruled that parody songs were to be considered “fair use” and needed no permission from the copyright holder.

2003 - Red Hot Chili Pepper frontman Anthony Kiedis inked a deal with Hyperion Books to pen his memoirs. Scar Tissue revealed the singer’s wild exploits leading up to the formation of his band.
